The Green Manifesto for Housing

The Backyard Nature Green Youth Board is calling on housing associations across the country to commit to improving outdoor spaces and nature for their residents.

After 18 months of youth-led community engagement, the youth board are on a mission to increase community wellbeing by bridge the gap between people and the environment. Connecting with nature makes us happier and healthier, but many people don’t have access to safe outdoor spaces or the ability to take action to improve these spaces.

The programme has included:

A Green Youth Board

A group of young people with lived experience of social housing

Developing skills for social change, awarding grants and recommending ways to improve residents’ connections with nature

Youth-led Funding & Research

£25,000 of funding for community groups to run youth-led activities to make outdoor spaces better.

Awarded by the board, this included a survey of outdoor spaces on or close to housing association land

Climate Conversations and Liminal Labs

A series of workshops for young people to learn more about different environmental problems and work together to think of solutions

They want to see action.

Will YOU share their  recommendations with a housing provider near you?
